The Financial Times and sustainable development organisation Forum for the Future have announced a $75,000 (£50,100) prize for the best idea aimed at tackling climate change.
The prize, which is sponsored by technology giant Hewlett Packard, will be awarded to the "practical idea" that does most to reduce emissions and "make us more resilient to the change ahead". Entrants should be commercially minded: "We intend to show that there are solutions to climate change, and that money can be made from them," says Peter Madden, chief executive of the forum.
A judging panel, which includes veteran conservationist and Forum for the Future founder Jonathon Porritt, FT editor Lionel Barber, Sir Richard Branson and Sir Terry Leahy, CEO of Tesco, will draw up a shortlist of 12 finalists, and the final result will be chosen by a poll of FT readers.
